Good Morning Symphonic Band Parents,
Here is the TENTATIVE Symphonic Band Schedule. This schedule will be through football and volleyball season. You may see some adjustments after those seasons end to accommodate students' schedules.
Please let me know if I missed anything. With 65 students, I tried my absolute best to accommodate everyone's schedule. (It is nearly impossible!)
7:30-8:15am - No Sectionals - Ms. Davis has duty
3:45-4:30pm - Trumpets
7:30-8:15am - Clarinets (not bass)
3:45-4:30pm - Flutes
7:30-8:15am - Saxophones
3:45-4:30pm - Percussion/Trombone/Euphonium
7:30-8:15am - Tuba
3:45-4:30pm - French Horn
7:30-8:15am - Jazz Band
3:45-4:30pm - Make Up Sectionals By Appointment Only
I was not able to fit your child's instrument into a morning or afternoon sectional time.
As a result, your child will be receiving their sectional time during class once a week with Mrs. George.
Oboes - Tuesdays during class
Bassoons/Bass Clarinet - Thursdays during class
If you see a conflict, please let me know by the end of the day on Thursday. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there are no conflicts!!) :)
Thank you so much for those of you who were able to make it to tonight's meeting! For your convenience, and for those who were not able to make it tonight, I have included the links to the presentation so you can look at and review the information.
If you did not turn in your Handbook Signature Page, please turn this in ASAP. It is attached to this email.
I apologize that the QR code is not working. I have included the link to private lesson sign up below.

Good Afternoon PHMS Band Parents!
The time has arrived - Summer is officially over.
We are so excited to get this school year started on Monday and see everyone!!
Please remember that we have our Band Parent Meeting on Tuesday in the PHMS Cafeteria.
This meeting is VERY important - especially for those who are new to the PHMS Band or for students who have never been in Concert or Symphonic Band. We are implementing some substantial changes this year for Practice Logs, and a year-long project, so please make every attempt to be present at the meeting - even if you are a returning PHMS Band Parent. ;)
Please see below for the location for 6:00pm AND 6:30pm.
6:00pm - Beginner Band Parents Meeting in the Cafeteria
6:00pm - Concert/Symphonic Parents pay fee in Band Hall ($85 - cash or check)
6:30pm - Beginner Band Parents pay fee in Band Hall after meeting ($45 - cash or check)
6:30pm - Concert/Symphonic Parents Meeting in the Cafeteria
For the meeting - please be sure you have a QR scanner on your phone. You will be receiving a lot of electronic information.
Also, if you have not imported our band calendar onto your phone, here is the link:
We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!
IT'S HERE!!! School is right around the corner!
What better way to celebrate the beginning of the new school year than with a Back To School Band Party?!
This is for returning band members.
Friday, August 18 4:00-8:00pm
Main Event - Frisco
Cost: $20 cash
Includes: $20 game card, 2 slices of pizza, unlimited drink, AND unlimited laser tag, bowling (+shoes), billiards, gravity, pool, etc!!!
How does my child attend?
We need volunteers for this party! Please consider signing up to volunteer:
If you volunteer, you must have completed a background check through FISD after July 1, 2017.
If you have any questions, please let me know! I hope to see you next Friday!!
You are receiving this email because your child is a member of this year's Symphonic Band, and our band camp is just one week away! This is a required camp for Symphonic Band, but we are aware that families may have vacations scheduled. Thank you for those who have already contacted me about conflicts.
If your child is attending football camp next week as well, they will be released from football at 9:30am so they can attend band camp. :)
Monday, August 7
Tuesday, August 8
Wednesday, August 9
Tuesday, August 15 - Cub Camp Performance!
Parents - Please consider signing up to help with setting up lunch and/or chaperoning the pool party on Wednesday, August 9. It's fun!
You can sign up here: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F054AA5A92FA7F94-band3
See you next week!!
It's that time of year when you need to renew you volunteer background check with FISD!
Even if you completed a background check for 2016-17, you must complete it again for 2017-18 after July 5, 2017. We encourage ALL parents to submit this simple and fast background check, even if you do not think you will volunteer this year.
We have so many fun activities you can participate in, but any parent that wants to participate MUST complete a background check. We check our approved background checks before every event. You would not be able to participate in any extra events if you have not submitted and passed a background check. On average, it takes 2 weeks to be approved, so we encourage you to complete this background check now, so you don't have to worry about it later on in the year!
To complete a background check for FISD, go here: http://www.friscoisd.org/about/resources-and-information/background-checks
You can also find more information about the opportunities to volunteer here: http://www.phmsband.com/volunteer.html
Please let me know if you have any questions!
- Ms. Davis
If your child is taking summer private lessons at Reedy, please see below:
The principal at Reedy HS has requested for students to enter Reedy through the front doors on Mondays for private lessons. This allows for better monitoring of the area, versus using the back band hall door.
Starting Monday, the back band hall door at RHS will be locked. Please enter and exit through the front doors at Reedy for private lessons.
- RHS & PHMS Band Directors
I can't believe summer is already half way over!
This is just a reminder to make sure you purchase your child's band supplies ASAP if you have not already done so. Many music companies run out of supplies around this time, especially if you need to reserve any of these instruments - flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone, and percussion.
You can find a list of required supplies here:
If your child has already completed at least one (or two) years in band, please sit down with your child and make sure they have all of their required supplies. Some supplies are lost during the year, and they will need their supplies all year long!
Instrument Upgrades/Step Up
If your child is going to be in Symphonic Band next year and they play flute or trumpet, please make sure you have gone to the music store to upgrade your child's instrument. The instrument that they played in Beginner Band is a beginning instrument - they are no longer beginners! They need an upgrade/step-up! Concert Band flute and trumpet players are strongly encouraged to upgrade their instrument, but it is not required.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Have a great July!
- Ms. Davis
